The Tragedy of Commercial Fishing

Claims and stances

  1. 0:00 So I was sitting at my desk eating my dinner uh which happens to be uh this little tuna sushi roll right here, and it had me thinking about commercial fishing because um thinking about the tuna that's in my sandwich, and I I kinda remembered about the destruction that commercial fishing is having on our ocean populations and environments.
  2. 0:21 Um Today um billions of fish are caught uh nearly every day and the methods to use them are all but um are all but humane.
  3. 0:30 Um though they're dragging trawling nets on the bottom of the ocean, tearing up reefs and all of the all of the habitats on the ocean's floor, or mass catching everything they can that they float across, and then killing the things that they're not using.
  4. 0:42 Commercial fish or boats are um an optimal, ineffective, and um very wasteful, uh just decimating our ocean's populations.
  5. 0:50 And even though the ocean makes up so much of the earth, we can't just go around destroying it uh at a whim.
  6. 0:56 Um we need to do more work in sustainable fishing in my opinion, to um nurture our oceans uh our oceans' ecosystems and to support the plants that produce most of our oxygen and those ecosystems that um support uh m thousands and tens of thousands of different organisms and species.
  7. 1:12 Um it's so important to the to our world, to our ecosystem to we almost owe it to our planet to protect our fish and our wildlife, uh our marine wildlife and just commercial fishing and the processes in which we go about um hunting and getting food, which is important, but the methods are so inhumane and so destructive.
  8. 1:29 I think we should do better and find more humane ways to do it just because so many organisms are killed um every day that don't need to be in that and the habitats are destroyed and it's just it's just not effective.
  9. 1:40 It doesn't it's not gonna um it's it's not um resourceful and it's very wasteful because those populations of the ecosystem are destroyed, they're not gonna come back, and it's gonna lead to a lot of extinction and a lot of decimation of fish populations, which it already has, and we're it's only getting worse right now.
  10. 1:53 Let me know your thoughts about this on my video.
