- 0:00 You know, I've been thinking a lot about what the job market is really gonna mean for engineering students right now.
- 0:05 Um I think the pressure's real for students.
- 0:07 The these these early career uh stepping stones like internships and research are are really becoming uh more and more common for students.
- 0:15 Um but I think they're getting harder to find, uh especially with with funding being cut to to institutions like NSF, NIH, um these government programs and institute-based research that's that's becoming more difficult to do.
- 0:28 Um even with you know, quote unquote looming recession, you see Morgan Stanley put up number what 40, 40 percent, I think, for for a looming recession.
- 0:37 So that's you know that's that's up for debate there.
- 0:40 There's no no significant uh consensus, but still uh I think on the industry side companies are companies are cautious.
- 0:48 Uh you see hiring slowing down, uh, especially in tech.
- 0:51 Uh, but really there's still there's still strong demand, it looks like for engineers.
- 0:54 I think um there's always gonna need to be somebody who can apply these fundamentals to to modern tools and adapt to adapt to our change economy, obviously with with the growth of new tools like uh even AI just at its core is is really been a game changer for a lot of these industries.
- 1:12 Um I think you know, if you're if you're graduating in the next couple of years, obviously this is applicable to me as well, but I think you're looking at uh at a stabilizing market and um students with these with these soft skills of of communication and networking to set them aside in the in the hiring hiring pool.
- 1:29 Um and then those who really just have experience with these new new tools like AI and how to apply them are are gonna be really set aside.
- 1:36 Um so I'm interested to see how this how this plays out in the next couple of years and and what it's really gonna mean for the industry.
- 1:42 Um obviously it's such a such a diverse industry, engineering itself and and branching out to many many different different sectors.
- 1:50 Um so there's there's a lot of stability in that sense.
- 1:54 But um I'm I'm very interested to see how how hiring and and the looming you know economic state is gonna come into play with with job placement in the engineering field in the next couple of years.
