Sam Worth0:00 So I'm gonna talk about ownership and collection and how it's really kind of gotten really big recently.0:08 I don't know if you guys have noticed, but Pokemon cards have blown up in the last few years in a way that they haven't in a while.0:15 And it kind of made me think why do people obsess over collection of things, whether it be Lego sets or sneakers or Funko Pops or Pokemon cards, whatever it may be, or even you know, vinyl and nice pieces of art, people really like to collect things, and it's more than just wanting stuff and just wanting to have things, it's kind of a deeper thing.0:42 Um, for some things like Pokemon cards, Funko Pops, whatever, that could be more of a nostalgia thing, where it makes you feel like you're tapping into your childhood in an adult world, which is comforting for all of us.0:57 Another could be with art or vinyl, it signifies a sort of status or taste in the finer things, and I think people always want to be perceived as having nice things or liking nice things, and that could be part of it.1:14 Um, another part of it could be feeling a sense of control and completion when you complete your collection or when you acquire an item in the collection you've been looking after.1:25 I think in a world where things can feel really chaotic all the time, I think stress levels are higher than they've ever been, and they're only going to get worse.1:33 And collecting things allows you to feel a sort of control over one aspect of something in a world where you don't have a lot of control.1:42 But the big thing is in today's world, especially for people of my generation, younger people, things you people don't feel the same sense of ownership that they once once did.1:55 Houses and cars and even just everyday goods and groceries are way more expensive than they once were, and buying a house is really unattainable for a lot of people, as is a nice car or you know, nice clothing.2:08 It's very expensive to upkeep this sort of thing in today's world, and traditional ownership feels sort of out of reach, and being able to collect something and build a collection allows you to feel that sense of ownership and pride and being able to say, hey, this is mine, this is something that I've built over the course of how long, where a lot of the things it feels like you're renting or leasing or everything that you have feels sort of temporary, and this idea of collecting and completing a collection, it's so much more than just a hobby, it's allowing you to feel a sense of ownership and identity and control in a world where we don't get that a lot.2:49 And I think that as time goes on and things continue to get more expensive, that people are going to maybe not become hoarders, but I think people are going to feel a lot more of a tight grip on their items because it feels like everything is so fleeting and that they're gonna lose their items.3:09 So I think collections only just gonna get bigger, and I'm curious to see how it changes with the world and how maybe people start collecting things that aren't as traditional, maybe not physical items, but maybe achievements.3:25 Um that's another thing with gaming, is people love to complete games because it allows them to say, hey, this is a huge task that I set out to do, and this is something that I can say that I've done and I've worked on.3:37 And I'm just curious to see how this sense of needing to feel that ownership continues to evolve as physical things may even get even harder to acquire, and people are gonna want more and more of that sense of ownership and identity.
