  1. 0:00 What's up y'all?
  2. 0:01 Today I want to talk about nicotine pouches and if the FDA should regulate them.
  3. 0:06 I think everyone has seen a big boom in the nicotine pouch industry.
  4. 0:10 You got recognizable brands like Zen and VO.
  5. 0:14 I mean, you see nicotine pouches everywhere, in the classroom, in the bathroom, on the ground, at parties.
  6. 0:20 But really, what are these nicotine pouches?
  7. 0:24 Are they really a safe alternative to smoking and vaping that um these companies are marketing?
  8. 0:30 I mean, we saw similar marketing technique for vaping, that it was a safe alternative to smoking, but we didn't really know the long-term effects with vaping, and we don't know the long-term effects with Zins and pouches now.
  9. 0:43 Um and they both followed similar marketing strategies.
  10. 0:45 You see these these these flavors that attract younger generation, recognizable brands, like I said, Zen and Blo.
  11. 0:52 Um big signage, and yeah, I mean, it seems like their target audience really is the younger generation.
  12. 1:00 Although it may be less harmful to your body than vaping and smoking, we really don't know what's in these things.
  13. 1:06 Um I'm I'm I've heard of some health concerns like high blood pressure, um lack of attention, um obviously the gum irritation.
  14. 1:16 But long term, we don't really know much.
  15. 1:19 And essentially, most of these companies are owned by most of these brands are owned by tobacco companies, so they essentially found a loophole, and the FDA has done nothing to regulate them.
  16. 1:29 Um there's no regulation on nicotine pouches here in the United States.
  17. 1:33 So I think it's it's an interesting thing to look at and see the similarities between the pouch industry and the vaping industry.
  18. 1:39 And uh, I'm really curious to see what the FDA does.
  19. 1:41 And I I think there should be some some form of rebu regulation at least just to keep the people who use them safe.
  20. 1:48 And I mean, if it is a safe alternative, it would be good to know that too for those who need to quit smoking.
  21. 1:53 So, yeah, that's about it.
  22. 1:54 Just want to see what happens with these pouches as we we continue and as as the market grows.
  23. 1:59 And yeah, I mean, I think the market's around 120 billion dollars now, so it's uh it's a big market.
  24. 2:05 So we'll we'll see what happens.

  1. 0:00 Interesting topic, Carl.
  2. 0:02 Um I think I've definitely seen the rise in these nicotine pouches at parties and things that I've been to.
  3. 0:08 I've seen them in the floor in urinals everywhere and seen and know a lot of people that have used these before.
  4. 0:15 Um and yeah, I think that we've seen the rise in vaping and then later we see the studies come out on all the adverse effects of it, and I think then the regulations come after that, but if we're unsure of how this how these pouches are gonna affect people in the long run, I think that there needs to be some sort of regulation because I don't think it's safe to have this mystery of how these are gonna affect people.
  5. 0:42 Um I definitely think that they're more discreet than sift things like cigarettes.
  6. 0:47 Um you can put multiple in at the same time, and I think that this makes it easier to keep doing it over and over again and become addicted, and I think that this could have detrimental effects in the long run.
  7. 1:00 And I've heard people I know complain about gum irritation and things, and I think that this is only gonna get worse in the future.
  8. 1:06 And I think the FDA needs to crack down on this a little bit and at least slightly regulate it before we really know uh what's gonna happen to people in the long term.
