  1. 0:00 Alright, so today I just heard about a guy that I'm living with.
  2. 0:04 He just fell off of his ladder in his living situation in college.
  3. 0:08 And I wanted to get on here and just discuss the dangers of college dorm rooms and like how the colleges are using these cheap ways to house college students, but it's actually putting college students in danger.
  4. 0:23 So actually, a personal story I have about this.
  5. 0:29 He went to college and he's a freshman there.
  6. 0:31 And you know, most college dorm rooms, their beds are lofted up on bunk beds.
  7. 0:37 And one night he fell out of the bed and hit his head really hard on his desk.
  8. 0:42 He actually ended up in the hospital in the ICU and he had brain uh brain bleeding, and they had to um drain blood from his brain twice.
  9. 0:52 And if he hadn't gotten an MRI, he he would have died.
  10. 0:56 So it's honestly a really important thing that I think needs to be discussed more.
  11. 1:00 I think cost over student lives and their health shouldn't be an issue that these colleges are are enforcing.
  12. 1:08 Um so yeah, I I've had multiple people around me fall off their ladders as they're climbing up high into these lofts and their their high up beds.
  13. 1:18 So I think I think we should discuss more about how we can effectively use this space without um you know having these janky ladders to have to climb up into to get into our beds.

Carl Dagher

  1. 0:00 Yeah Gaines, I I agree.
  2. 0:01 Um I really think that it's a it's a pretty big issue that's that's going on in these colleges today.
  3. 0:08 Um I personally have had experience with with kind of dangerous rooms as well.
  4. 0:14 Um like the ladder and like why does the bed need to be that high?
  5. 0:18 But also there's these hidden dangers that I don't think are talked about enough.
  6. 0:23 Like most dorm rooms here at Georgia Tech have don't have mold in them or poor insulation or humidity issues.
  7. 0:32 Like my dorm last year had mold all in the ceiling and you know I was constantly like stuffed up.
  8. 0:38 I I never felt like myself.
  9. 0:40 And I really think that in order to promote like the best um kind of performance out of their students, they they should they should work on kind of creating a healthy living environment.
  10. 0:50 And I think mold is is a silent killer that's been you know it's been been plaguing colleges around around the country.

Vansh Patel

  1. 0:00 Gaines, I absolutely agree with your point.
  2. 0:02 I think for universities to be cheaping out on materials and products such as bed loss, I think that should be considered nothing less than endangering the life of the student.
  3. 0:12 I mean uh we pay immense fees for housing at universities.
  4. 0:18 I mean as a Georgia Tech student, I pay $3,600 per uh semester at a dorm and around $5,200 per semester at the on-campus apartments and I think the quality is nowhere near uh for the amount we pay.
  5. 0:36 I mean, I think it's incredibly subpar and possibly endangers our lives.
  6. 0:42 I mean personally, uh having disabilities I have trouble getting in my bed, but these rooms are produced to maximize profit and I mean there's no other option than lofting the bed.
  7. 0:58 So for me to be able to get my bed, there's there's several risks I can possibly face from uh I could possibly fall.
  8. 1:05 I mean I think for a university to be prioritizing profits and cheaping out on materials is just incredibly demeaning.
  9. 1:17 I mean I think they should be prioritizing the lives and quality of life of the student that I mean that are attending and paying some of these fees.
  10. 1:28 So yeah, I strongly agree with your point.
