  1. 0:00 I know that gun violence in America is a very sensitive topic and it's one that's been talked about and debated over time and time again, but after the most recent ending at the Atlanta airport with the potential shooting threat that ended up being avoided, um shadow Atlanta police department.
  2. 0:22 Um it raises some concerns because a convicted felon did have an AK-47 and once again we find ourselves asking, how does this happen when you know felons are not supposed to be able to access these rifles?
  3. 0:46 Um is more gun control the answer or do we think that more gun control just opens up an alley for you know kind of black market selling of rifles and guns.
  4. 1:07 But yeah, I just kinda wanted to open that up for discussion and also talk about you know why we see time and time again the demographic of these shootings is white males, why is this demographic so much more likely to do these crimes of kind of that stem out of self-loathing or you know personality disorders?
  5. 1:40 Is it because you know this demographic of people is encouraged to be strong and be the leaders of their families and that is why they end up feeling depressed because if they're not being a provider, if they're not successful in life, then you know they end up making these bad decisions because of the mental health struggles they endure and also you know kind of it's a pretty big stigma for you know men going to therapy, they can be perceived as soft.
  6. 2:16 But yeah, this is just an interesting um topic.
  7. 2:21 Shout out the his family who reported him after they saw his social media post.
  8. 2:28 But yeah, I think this is a that incident is a gateway for some conversation on a gun violence and you know shootings are happening all the time, especially recently with school shootings, um, Charlie Kirk's assassination and this and also um mental health for white men who are repeatedly the um the people responsible for these shootings.
  9. 3:00 But yeah, let me know your thoughts.

  1. 0:00 Um, Lisa, I think that's a great commentary um that really hits close to home, considering that that's the airport that we all use.
  2. 0:08 Um kind of to answer your question about why is it that we're always seeing white males um who are committing these acts or threatening to commit these acts, as we saw in the Atlanta Airport.
  3. 0:20 I think that a lot of it has to do with mental illness, and I think that that is something that is not taken seriously enough in that population and in that demographic of people.
  4. 0:31 There are a lot of people who use their radical ideologies as an excuse and as their um reasoning when really sometimes it's mental instability, I think, um, that they're not being treated for.
  5. 0:48 I think that when it comes to the Atlanta airport, I'm really thankful for everyone who spoke out in his family for saying stuff.
  6. 0:55 And I think that gun violence in the airport has um is definitely a very scary thing just because of the number of people that it can impact.
  7. 1:04 Um I think as for gun violence in this nation, it has gotten kind of out of control.
  8. 1:10 And I think kind of speaking to my previous point, one of the biggest combatants of gun violence can be that recognition of mental illness and finding ways to combat that.
  9. 1:21 In the demographic that we're talking about, white men, um, specifically white privileged men.
  10. 1:27 I think that it is super important that these men um that we're cautious of their mental illnesses, but also cautious of who we're giving weapons to.
  11. 1:38 It has become just so easy to purchase a weapon that many people with negative intentions um are the ones purchasing this.
  12. 1:47 And so I think it's really important on how we respond.
  13. 1:52 Um, I think it's about intervention and about fighting back in a positive way.
  14. 1:58 Um, and so I think it's really about like the awareness there um about who we are selling these weapons to and who these people are and what their intentions are that is really gonna help us with gun violence, both in this country and at the Atlanta airport.
