Connor Mcilhinney0:00 It's come to light recently that Dr.0:03 Mike, uh who's like kind of a a fitness influencer um for bodybuilding, uh he goes by Dr.0:09 Mike on the internet.0:10 His PhD, um, people looked into it and it's riddled with errors, it's riddled with uh wrong analysis, it's riddled with conclusions that are extremely evident and well known, um, which kind of undermines the whole point of what a PhD is and what gives the weight when people can walk into a room and say, I have a PhD in this subject.0:31 Um this thing kind of blowing up leaves people to I think mentally just put a little bit less value into PhDs, um, which is not something as a society that we should be doing.0:44 We should be recognizing people who are experts in their field.0:48 And I I really think this is an issue with sports science in itself.0:52 Um where I think there's a lot of lackluster uh thesis graders and the research going in to health science nowadays is a lot less scientific.1:07 Um and a lot of the research that's being published is just very basic.1:11 Uh I so I think I think the graders for PhDs need to step up and I think I think this is a great thing that people are looking into PhD dissertations um and researching them.
Vansh Patel0:00 Connor, I think you brought up an excellent point on how if a PhD were to slip through the system and an easy grader, uh, how that could potentially lead to the undermining of some of these values.0:15 Uh I specifically know about the Dr.0:19 Mike situation as I I do keep in touch with the gym influencer community.0:25 Uh I think some of his uh research was blatantly wrong and some of the things he was advertising just uh just weren't true.0:36 And to be an expert of your field and make some of these simple mistakes that he was making, I think it undermines his entire field and what he lives for.0:46 And I think that has the potential to get people to just stay away from that field that he's mentioning.0:56 Uh like I know Jeff Nipper, who is a science baselifter that bases all of his research on previous PhD uh research papers, which he's very scientific about what he does and he's very respected among the gym community because of how thoroughly uh he researches what he talks about and what he advocates for.1:25 And for Dr.1:26 Mike to be advocating for something and backing it with his PhD, uh I think it's just wrong and I think can potentially disturb the name of the PhD itself.1:40 I think it undermines the value of it.1:42 Uh for him to just base all of his knowledge and back it because he has the title of doctor in front of his name, I think it's wrong and possibly an abuse of power in a way.1:56 Uh I think that really does harm to not just his PhD, but to all PhDs out there because for a PhD to slip through the system and be undermined, I think that harms not only his degree but all degrees out there uh with that title.2:17 And if that does continue, like you were mentioning, the the easy grading and the slip throughs in the system, I think that could potentially lead to the devaluation of the PhD itself.2:30 So I think you made an excellent point.
