Social media for young people

  1. 0:00 Yeah, Casey, great topic.
  2. 0:02 I think that um social media with very younger younger kids is gonna present a big problem to society.
  3. 0:10 Um I think a lot of the things that you said, like these suicide rates and stuff like that, are very concerning, and we need to maybe introduce some sort of regulation to this.
  4. 0:21 I think that these young kids aren't developed yet, they don't know how to think about um certain things, and there's like you said, there's a lot of comparison between other people, and it can bring kids down, make them feel uh less worthy, or things like that, and really hurt their self-esteem at a young age.
  5. 0:40 And so what I think we need to do is implement some sort of way that you can verify your age um before you can log on and start using like these social media apps so that we can kind of raise the age uh to a little bit older to where these kids can start on these platforms.
  6. 0:57 Because I do think social media is a great way for kids to connect and make friends and reach out, branch out, find new friend groups, find people with similar interests.
  7. 1:07 But at the same time, I think that when these kids are super young and they don't really know how to handle um the these apps, I think that um it can be detrimental to their self-esteem, and I think it can cause a lot more problems than it can cause good at that certain age.
  8. 1:24 That being said, just raise it a little bit higher, make them verify, and I think that that would uh present a lot of solutions to this problem.
