  1. 0:00 Wesley, I think you brought up an excellent topic that's certainly becoming an epidemic in this nation.
  2. 0:06 I mean, I think almost every single person I know in a way has interacted with sports betting and if not other forms of gambling.
  3. 0:17 So it's definitely a current issue in this nation.
  4. 0:23 And I think just looking at it, I think it's an unfortunate side effects of some of the freedoms that we have.
  5. 0:32 We have the freedom to gamble in the US at a proper age, and unfortunately, many people lose their lives to it.
  6. 0:42 And it's something that is kind of out of our hands, but it's something that definitely needs to be addressed.
  7. 0:49 I mean, there's kids that are taking this pretty far.
  8. 0:55 I mean, I know social media has been a big part of it, the marketing.
  9. 0:59 You see all these influencers and people just winning big and showing how they bought their parents' houses and things like that.
  10. 1:07 And it's really just trapping these kids in to a lifetime of gambling, which is always known to harm the person overall.
  11. 1:18 And you know, there may be that slim chance of person changing their life from this, but it's really not replicable in general.
  12. 1:30 Uh another thing is, you know, how do we draw the line between uh fair marketing and luring kids in?
  13. 1:39 I mean, I know in Georgia now the age for sports betting is 19, and you know, while they are an adult in technically they are an adult, a legal adult, but uh you know they still can't drink.
  14. 1:57 Why should they be allowed to gamble?
  15. 1:59 Uh I think gambling does have just as many consequences as drinking may.
  16. 2:06 Uh you know, it's hard to put a number on it, but I feel like just marketing towards kids like that, especially with sports, uh knowing that that's something that they're gonna pick up, I think has to be addressed.
  17. 2:25 I think it's something that should raise some concerns to uh how they're marketing that and I do like the point that you brought up about how the Georgia lottery uh pays for scholarships and things like that.
  18. 2:39 I know Mizelle Miller scholarship is technically paid for by Georgia Lottery, and you know it's hard to find that moral balance between you know uh people are gonna gamble, but we might as well use those some of that money towards a better cause of educating kids out there and I think that's a good thing, but you also gotta think if we were to turn this into a similar format for sports betting, just kind of the implications on that.
  19. 3:16 So I think you brought up a very interesting point and I think that should definitely be looked into a little further if uh that'd be a viable option to turn some of the proceeds of sports betting into education for kids out there.
  20. 3:31 So yeah, great point.
