1. 0:00 Alright, today I'm talking about the National Guard and how Trump wants to deploy them in Portland.
2. 0:07 So a recent report says that Donald Trump wants to deploy the National Guard into Portland, about 200 um servicemen.
3. 0:14 And the goal is to kind of quiet down Portland because according to the Trump administration, it is burning down and is a war zone.
4. 0:23 And also for I think months now, or at least weeks, there have been large protests outside of the immigration building in Portland, Oregon.
5. 0:32 And so some of these protests have gotten a little bit violent, and there's been run-ins between ICE agents and the general public.
6. 0:40 And so I think the way that I take this is Donald Trump is deploying these troops in order to support these ICE agents and allow them to continue to run their operations.
7. 0:51 Whereas I think I can see both sides.
8. 0:53 I think the other side believes that now this is a kind of authoritative um deployment and it's they they could see it as a an abuse of power.
9. 1:03 And um, you know, no one wants to see federal troops armed with um machine guns on their streets.
10. 1:09 I I don't think that's something that I would want to see walking around uh my campus and my I my streets, but you also have to um understand that that may be necessary in order to keep law and order.
11. 1:21 So I think that there is a fine balance between it.

13. 1:26 Um I don't know if I completely believe that 200 troops is necessary.
14. 1:32 I think that there could be other federal resources that could go towards these agents to allow them to continue to do their job.
15. 1:38 Um, but I do want to hear people's opinions on this.

17. 1:42 You know, because I'm pretty sure there were motions to deploy the National Guard in California as well.
18. 1:49 Um I think that I think that um there are some issues in these cities that do need additional help, whether it be um, you know, the National Guard and in Donald Trump's mind that is what is needed.
19. 2:00 And you know, I think there might be more creative ways to approach this.
20. 2:03 I think that um the violence in these cities is out of control.
21. 2:07 Um and I think that the homeless population is also struggling a lot in these cities.
22. 2:12 So I think that there's a way to approach this.

25. 2:20 Um, you know, I think deploying the National Guard, it seems more like a it's just an easy um way to go about this.
26. 2:30 It's not as creative as you know some might think, but it might just be the necessary thing, at least in Donald Trump's mind, to do in order to re-establish um law and order.
