Om Patel0:00 Hey, so um I had a few minutes and I wanted to take the time and come out here and make a post about something I've been thinking about recently, and it pretty much just stems from the fact that in the past eight years we've seen presidents upwards of the age of 80, 81, 82 years old.0:15 Um and we've seen many public scenarios and public instances where some of these these leaders are shown to see some cognitive decline in terms of the way they handle themselves um uh and just the way they represent the country in general.0:32 Um so that that kind of made me wonder and think, you know, why isn't there an age cap on being president?0:40 You know, when I think of somebody who's 80 years old, I'm thinking, okay, they're a little they're an elderly citizen, you know, they might not be as mobile or as sharp as they used to be.0:48 Um but they're I mean they can be pretty capable uh given that their health is in good standing and whatnot.0:54 Um and some people, you know, there is always gonna be anomalies where some people who are, you know, of that age and can perform even at higher levels than somebody younger than them.1:04 Uh it just kind of depends on the way they treated their body throughout these years, um, and the way they live their life.1:10 But I think that the fact that nobody has questioned or asked for an age cap on presidents, um I think it's kind of intriguing, you know.1:21 We I mean, at what point is someone too old to run the entire country, you know, this isn't something that is a just a mere job, you know what I mean?1:34 Like this is the livelihood of millions and millions of people.1:39 So what are your the what are your guys' thoughts on this?1:42 I think that there should be an age cap, and I think that maybe that age cap should sit around right around 65, 70.1:50 Um, I think that somebody who would be able to do two terms even at the age of 70 would put them at 78.1:57 And even then I think that might be a little bit too high, but I think it definitely is a little bit better than the things that we're seeing today where you know presidents are becoming um or getting into their mid 80s.2:09 So let me guys let me guys know what your thoughts are on this issue.2:12 Um, and I'd love to hear what your perspectives are.
Vansh Patel0:00 Um I think you're absolutely right when it comes to uh age caps uh on presidencies.0:06 I think it's starting to become an issue as you see cognitive decline in some of these older folk.0:11 I mean the ba I mean we just the world is changing so much that right now with AI and social media and technology that a lot of these older generations aren't able to handle the change that's coming.0:26 So why are we electing them to control it?0:29 Uh I think there's so much going on with our younger generation right now.0:34 There's such change.0:35 Uh I don't think the older generation is gonna be able to handle it.0:40 And I don't see why we're allowing them to run at president at 80 years old when the differences they make aren't gonna be noticed until they're far gone.0:49 I mean, you really don't notice many changes for five to ten years uh in politics.0:55 So why are we letting people who aren't gonna even be here for them uh make these decisions?1:01 And another thing I bring up with that is life tenure in the Supreme Court.1:06 Why if uh if we're adding age caps to presidents should we uh also think about the life tenure that Supreme Court justices have.1:15 Uh I think that's also another issue that can come up.1:20 I mean, there are several uh Supreme Court justices that are getting to extreme levels of age uh and making decisions that impact the entirety of America.1:33 And you know, I think if we're I think if we're arguing about the age cap of presidents, I think we should also consider uh taking away life tenure of Supreme Court justices.1:44 I think that's another idea that should be addressed.1:46 So good point.
Davidson Potts0:00 I agree this is a problem common even seen in other parts of society too.0:04 Just have seen on driving on the road.0:07 There there are old people that are just not physically able and present to drive in their daily lives.0:13 And we've seen with the past two presidents back to back, Biden became unable to comprehend anything, was living on a teleprompter, and now we're seeing Trump have health problems.0:23 It's just coming to a point where we're saying, why are we electing people so old and so in power for no reason?0:31 And what most people, old people in Congress, and seen all across the government, they they're manipulating us and they're doing insider trading as well.0:40 They control a lot of the market and they make these decisions, huge decisions.0:44 For instance, in in warfare, government, aircraft and whatnot, and they manipulate us.0:51 And but we're slowly seeing day by day younger people in Congress fighting out.0:56 It's more of the Gen Z that's some of it's cringe in a sense that they're going out and fighting to be the younger of the youngest and show their mobility and power, but in the same instance, it's what we need.1:10 And I think we're gonna start seeing just to not elect these officials.1:15 I don't think there's gonna be an age cap because the all the old people in government they're gonna deny it.1:22 They're gonna say, no, we're not changing this.1:23 We want to be in government and control our money and investments and insider trading.1:28 So it's just never gonna happen, unfortunately.1:30 But it's the power of the people, and that's why we love America.1:34 They can just not vote them in.1:36 But they have controlling campaigns and there's some things that we can't control always too.
Leeza Kurtz0:00 I also have a lot of thoughts on this topic, and I think it's pretty nuanced and it can be pretty sensitive because you know, just saying that there's an age cap on the president raises concerns on if there should be age caps in other positions and other jobs, and you know, to some extent that can be kind of discriminatory towards older people who still need to make money and provide for themselves and their families.0:29 But you're absolutely right because at the role of president, you have so much power over the entire country and every single person in the country, and when there's genuine like cognitive damage that we know through research and science and medical history that comes with age, is it really okay to put someone at that age in charge of our entire nation?0:58 And my answer to that is no, but also like I mentioned earlier, there's a lot of concerns with you know just putting an age gap an age cap and saying no one over this age can run for president because then that might translate to other fields and other positions and other occupations, and that could get messy and start to hurt older people, although with our current system, people above 65 are able to start pulling from um from social security, but you know, obviously not everyone can fund themselves completely through that.1:43 But I don't know, it's a it's obviously a nuanced situation, and there's a lot of issues with saying yes to this.1:54 Yes, we need to stop letting people above a certain age run for president.1:59 But in my opinion, that is what needs to be done, especially with the most recent couple of elections.2:06 It just seems to be like we need a younger, more concise speaking president to gain trust and confidence in the population.
