- 0:00 Hey, so I want to talk about a tech that I think is kind of on the forefront of the health and fitness wearables market, you know, Fitbits and Whoops and Medi Glasses, and that's smart contact lenses, which um the application for those includes, you know, health and fitness, fitness being like sports hand-eye coordination, that's a big thing because it can track your eye movement.
- 0:20 Um, and so that can be very helpful for athletes.
- 0:22 And on the health front, something in particular that I want to talk about is glucose monitoring using smart contact lenses.
- 0:29 Um the point of that is that you know, tears just like blood have glucose in them, and so diabetics could track their glucose using these smart contact lenses.
- 0:39 Uh the problem with them now though is that they're not very accurate and they're you know, glucose detection not accurate or precise, and so that's something that takes a lot of lab testing.
- 0:48 Um, you know, because you've got your DEXCOMs and your Medtronics where those are very reliable medical devices that you don't want to stray from if you're a diabetic who can have like a heavy attack of low blood sugar.
- 1:02 Um and the other thing is uh you have to have m you know micro-size batteries that are either in this contact or near it, and so that's kind of a an industry that needs to be expanded into more for these contacts to really succeed.
- 1:16 So I'm very interested to see kind of where this goes and if these can become a reality in the next five to ten years.
