- 0:00 Hey guys, hopping back on here.
- 0:02 Um, and I just wanted to talk about government surveillance and privacy.
- 0:07 Um, and the question I kind of want to bring up is how much privacy should citizens realistically give up for their safety.
- 0:16 Um after events like 9-11, the US government, you know, they started using a lot more surveillance to help, you know, stop terrorism and keep people safe.
- 0:24 Uh they began tracking phone calls, emails, uh, and even online searches through programs um like the Patriot Act.
- 0:32 But supporters say this helps prevent dangerous acts and keep the country secure, but others think, you know, sometimes it goes too far.
- 0:39 Um that it gives governments honestly it gives them too much power and invades people's privacy.
- 0:46 Um and it honestly raises a big question, uh, one that I've been pondering on for some time, but how much privacy am I willing to give up for my own safety?
- 0:54 Um, you know, I think it's a tough balance, personally.
- 0:57 Um I do think that we need strong security.
- 1:00 Um, but you know, I also want to be able to live without feeling that somebody's always watching over my shoulder, you know.
- 1:07 Um I don't know if safety shouldn't necessarily come at the cost of freedom.
