Connor Mcilhinney0:00 Recently a new law was passed that allows college athletes to bet on pro sports.0:04 I think this is a huge issue within America.0:06 Um really everywhere I turn, kids are sports betting, and a lot of kids are in deep debt because of it.0:13 Um this is really dangerous for multiple reasons.0:15 One of the reasons is because kids young kids don't have that much money.0:20 So some of them that are going down $600 feels like a life-changing amount of money, and it causes some kids to do some drastic things uh like suicide or like steal from their parents, things that can get them into real legal trouble.0:33 Um another reason this is super dangerous is because young kids um about high school age are getting into it because when they go to talk to their friends about sports, it's no longer, oh my goodness, do you think he's gonna make this great catch?0:45 It's oh my goodness, what are the odds that this guy's gonna make his great catch?0:49 And and can I bet on that?0:50 Um I think this leads down the road to adult sports or will lead down the road to adults sports betting much, much, much more money.0:58 And I think the sports betting industry um will continue growing at an unprecedented rate um in America.1:04 This is something that legislators need to take notice of and take action of.
Gaines Gunn0:00 Connor, I really like your points about betting.0:02 And I've actually experienced this firsthand.0:04 One of my friends got into sports betting um recently, and what happened was he thought that he could just stop responding to the bookie, which is the person that puts in the bets for you.0:15 Um and so basically he went down, I think it was sixty, five hundred dollars, and he was like, I'm just gonna stop responding to this guy and block him, and because he just expected like it would just go away.0:26 He didn't understand that he was betting real money.0:29 And so basically what happened was the bookie contacted his parents, showed up at his house, and basically demanded the money.0:35 And so, I mean it it caused whole family matters, and I mean it was just a horrible situation.0:40 So I agree, like it's I think college or sports betting for young people, um, for un underdeveloped people, were the college kids aren't necessarily full adults, and so I I think it's a dangerous thing, and I think a lot of kids can go down the wrong path in that sense.0:57 Um, so yeah, this is an important topic.
Peter Durham0:00 Yo, Connor, I think you're making some great points about uh sports gambling and sports betting.0:05 Um I think it's a very bad issue.0:08 Uh and it's only been an issue in the past couple years, but I think the laws are just not set up to um help people like it it's set the laws are set up to really just have a lot of people lose money.0:23 Um my brother especially has lost a lot of money sports gambling, and he's not even the legal age to sports gamble.0:31 I think it that's a really big issue is like a lot of kids who are in like high school are able to like use their parents' IDs or um use like their br older siblings IDs to sports gamble, and there's no like verification on that.0:49 Um a lot of my brothers' friends have got into a lot of debt and are have gotten to a lot of trouble sports gambling.0:57 Uh my brother's gotten to a lot of trouble with his par with my parents and uh had to pay some people back for the money he's lost.1:04 Um yeah, I think it's a very big issue.1:09 I and currently Jor in Georgia, like sports gambling isn't even legal, and there's really just no verification on that for anyone who actually sports gambles.1:19 Um I think the laws should really crack down not as much on like the the state laws, like for you like gambling in Georgia.1:27 I think if you're above the age, um it should be fine, but like people who are younger really should not be gambling because they don't have like the processing of they're actually losing money.1:39 They really don't understand it.1:41 My brother like genuinely like doesn't really understand how much money he's losing.1:45 He really thinks it's just almost like a game.1:48 Um so yeah, I think that's a it's a big issue.
Om Patel0:00 What's up, Connor?0:01 Yeah, I really agree with what you're saying, how you know, sports betting and allowing college football players to bet on themselves can be a slippery slope, especially for these young high school kids who don't really have a lot of money and kind of rely on their parents for a source of funds.0:13 Um I think it is really dangerous because a lot of these kids are going into debt, like you said.0:18 Um so I do think there needs to be a lot more regulation in that.0:21 And I think a lot of these kids are gonna see like yeah, you know, that one guy or that one friend who posts his picks or his locks or whatever, and he you know ends up winning big.0:29 But that's just out of like, you know, one out of one out of hundred one out of a hundred chance.0:33 And uh I think it's a really bad thing that kids can get hooked on to really early on.0:38 So I think there might be something that needs to be looked into here.
