  1. 0:00 It was announced yesterday that James Franklin was fired as the head coach of Penn State, which is honestly crazy to believe, even though I think just about everyone saw it coming.
  2. 0:12 He had a record of 17 and 26 against AP top 25 teams, and even worse record against top 10 teams with seven and seventeen.
  3. 0:23 So it was uh it was a long time of waiting, but it's just crazy how fast the uh Penn State football team imploded after losses to UCLA and Northwestern this past weekend uh after coming into the season as a uh top five favorite and one of the college football playoff national champion uh favorites.
  4. 0:42 So uh we'll see where that that puts James Franklin going forward, uh seeing if any teams uh a little bit lower tiered, less competitive pick him up, uh maybe as a coordinator of some sorts.
  5. 0:54 But it's uh it's pretty interesting to see how fast the whole Penn State operation exploded.

Casey Comerford

  1. 0:00 Yeah, Luca, just to back off that, um, what I've kind of been seeing ever since his firing is a lot of um, you know, stuff coming out from the players, uh, you know, backing up Franklin, um, you know, saying they're gonna miss him.
  2. 0:14 And I think that's the one thing that kind of gets lost in everything.
  3. 0:17 I mean, obviously college football has become a business that continues to grow more and more each year.
  4. 0:21 Um but I think coach firings in college should be a little bit different than in the NFL, say, where it is a pure business.
  5. 0:30 Um because at the end of the day, not only is it obviously a roles coach to, you know, put the best team out there, win games, which Franklin wasn't doing the best job at, but these coaches can have a, you know, drastic impact on, you know, these young men's lives and their futures.
  6. 0:47 And I think what Franklin did do a good job at is a lot of players you see love him and they're grateful for him building relationships with them.
  7. 0:54 And I don't know, I I guess I'm just thinking like, will it really make that much of a difference of whether Franklin got fired now versus say with one or two weeks left in the season to where you let him basically figure out finish out the year, um, or you just tell him, you know, to announce maybe he's resigning.
  8. 1:12 I mean, obviously that would just decrease team morale for future games, but um I think you are taking him away from that opportunity to, you know, continue to build those relationships with those kids.
  9. 1:23 So um I don't know, it's definitely interesting.
  10. 1:26 Um Penn State's just it's all seems like they've always been in a weird spot um when it comes to being, you know, one of the top teams in people's minds, but never really getting that big win.
  11. 1:36 And whether that is down to coaching or not, um, you know, I guess we'll see in the future.
  12. 1:40 So

Carl Dagher

  1. 0:00 Yeah, I think his his firing was was completely justified, but it does bring up the issue um like how much media has an impact on Um perception of teams and you can kinda see how flawed that is with some of these AP poll voters.
  2. 0:20 Um I believe like some people vote for a brand in the rankings rather than the actual team itself.
  3. 0:28 And you know, Penn State's a well-established brand, you know, they have a great fan base, uh they're famous for their white out games.
  4. 0:35 Um they always seem to have high expectations, but they they never get anything done really.
  5. 0:41 I mean they were competitive last year making the uh playoffs and and winning a playoff game, but I really think that the media can overhype these teams and you know with social media nowadays a lot of people um can kind of see right through that and you know they create a lot of negative energy around a program and I see I think that's what's happening with Penn State here.
  6. 1:03 I mean, James Franklin did have to go, but I think the Penn State athletic director needs to take a look at what's going on with the team and really assess like what their expectations should be because putting unreal like realistic expectations on a program can kind of be the way that it collapses and you know they don't really see any forward progress.
  7. 1:22 Um I'm interested to see how this uh affects the recruiting path or recruiting trail for Penn State, but it's it's it's interesting to see what what'll happen in the future.

Adi Patel

  1. 0:00 Yeah, I would agree with you.
  2. 0:01 I think it is pretty crazy how fast Penn State just rapidly declined in their progress throughout the season.
  3. 0:07 I thought it was also pretty fascinating along with Penn State how the AP top twenty-five has completely changed from the preseason till now.
  4. 0:14 I mean teams like even though Texas won last week on a huge win, teams like Texas was unranked, Alabama lost week one.
  5. 0:22 I mean the preseason top 25 AP poll was no nobody could have guessed how it is now the way it was in the preseason.
  6. 0:28 But I think that Franklin, Penn State's quarterback uh head coach being fired just shows how quickly things can change because he's had solid I mean the records don't show it, but he's had a solid few seasons with Penn State.
  7. 0:42 But I mean three three losses in a row is is is quite quite crazy.
  8. 0:48 Um everybody definitely saw this coming.
  9. 0:50 I think it's the right move for Penn State.
  10. 0:52 Um they need something to get going 'cause every year they have a consistent team.
  11. 0:56 They have a great they have great home field advantage.
  12. 0:58 The wideout is one of the best traditions in college football history.
  13. 1:02 But without without a good coach, they're not going anywhere.
  14. 1:05 And it is pretty interesting to see where James Franklin will go in the upcoming years.
