- 0:00 Tristan, I think you bring up a lot of great points here, and um it does seem like some of our leadership maybe is meeting society where it's at because um we are you know and a lot of the stuff that they post is very unserious, but a lot of the internet's very unserious.
- 0:13 It is unfortunate when um the chief of the United States is posting AI videos of political opponents um and sombreros when they make complaints about how he's approaching ice, you know, it's kind of like what is that even um it's pretty comical, but that's not a good look.
- 0:33 But something that I think it's important to consider here is um when you learn about Theodore Roosevelt, one of the first things you learn about is the fireside chat and how he would broadcast over the radio and um meet Americans where they were at at that point.
- 0:49 And this was why he was uh a big reason why he was so popular is that people had never had such a personal connection with their president.
- 0:57 Um and it won him a lot of things and it helped him out a lot.
- 1:00 The fireside chats did not go away.
- 1:02 And I don't think you know our government's usage today is nearly as wholesome as the fireside chats that he would broadcast over the radio, but I do think this is just a sign that we're entering a new era because Trump absolutely used social media to his advantage in this past campaign election cycle.
- 1:18 I think he also did so by going on different podcasts.
- 1:21 Um like that's stuff that presidents don't do, but people listen to.
- 1:26 Um, so I think it's definitely a sign that times are changing.
- 1:29 I think uh when we look back at how he won the second election, I think it'll be a case study in um using the same medium as your society.
- 1:37 But yeah, it is very interesting to see.
- 1:39 It's also interesting to see other countries' governments on social media and comparing them to ours.
- 1:43 But yeah.
