  1. 0:00 Hey y'all, what's up?
  2. 0:01 When's the last time you use something like Chat GPT to help you with schoolwork or just to search for something on the internet?
  3. 0:07 Many people don't know how ChatGPT actually works.
  4. 0:11 You see, it's not just on your computer, it uses large data centers that take up a ton of power.
  5. 0:16 But how do these get powered?
  6. 0:18 Right now, a lot of companies do use gas power.
  7. 0:20 However, a lot of these big companies like Amazon, Google, OpenAI have pledged carbon neutrality in the future and they have found a solution that will help fix this problem.
  8. 0:32 Nuclear energy is perfect to do this because it runs 24-7 and it creates a ton of power that is completely carbon-free.
  9. 0:41 And by doing this, they can power these large data centers that take up as much power as like small cities.
  10. 0:48 And they've already started.
  11. 0:50 In March of 2024, Amazon spent $650 million on a data center campus in Pennsylvania that's powered directly by a nuclear plant.
  12. 0:59 And on top of that, OpenAI is developing small micro reactors specifically to power AI.
  13. 1:05 So while we see the amazing things AI can do on the screens, the hidden engine making it all possible is the quiet resurgence in nuclear energy.
  14. 1:13 Turns out the future of artificial intelligence might be more dependent on the power of the atom than any of us realized.

Walt Brunson

  1. 0:00 You know, I think that's a really interesting point.
  2. 0:02 I think nuclear energy is gonna be a key going forward.
  3. 0:05 I think there's a lot of uh pros to nuclear energy, but at the same time, I think in the past we've seen a lot of cons.
  4. 0:12 Um, you know, we've seen these major incidents uh like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, uh Japan.
  5. 0:18 Um so I think I think it's gonna be a combination of that and and other renewable sources that we're gonna have to find.
  6. 0:24 Um but I think energy as as a whole, as a sector, is gonna be a huge industry coming uh coming forward with AI and the expansion of these data centers.
  7. 0:33 Uh I think water too is a really under uh represented aspect of this AI use, which is which is it uses so much water, it's ridiculous.
  8. 0:41 It's something like a gallon for every every you know some amount of characters on your prompt.
  9. 0:46 Like it is it is a lot of water usage.
  10. 0:49 And um I think that's gonna have to be watched uh maybe even more closely than the than the energy sources that we're using.
  11. 0:54 But uh I think those are great points, I'm gonna.

Peter Durham

  1. 0:00 Great video, Heinz.
  2. 0:02 I did not realize how much energy is used to power Chat GPT and Open AI and did not know how big of an issue it is.
  3. 0:09 I looked it up and the International Energy Agency estimated that global electricity use from data centers, AI, and crypto could double by 2026 compared to 2022.
  4. 0:19 So in only four years, the amount of energy needed to power these uh Chat GPT open AI um will double, which is crazy.
  5. 0:29 In order to continue the rate of Chat GPT usage that we are currently using, we must harness more energy, which will divert our workforce to harnessing more energy, which can open up jobs, but also depletes jobs in other areas.
