  1. 0:00 Smuckers is suing Trader Joe's for their uncrustable dupe that they're selling in their store right now.
  2. 0:07 Um the Trader Joe's equivalent of whatever the incrustable, the peanut butter jelly sandwich that everyone knew and ate growing up as a kid.
  3. 0:15 Uh I think this is pretty interesting because Trader Joe's is kind of known for having their entire product line that is super similar to the big name brands.
  4. 0:22 They have their own Oreos, they have their own kinds of cookies, they have their own different kinds of chips like Takis, um, as well as tons of other stuff that's all like the Trader Joe's brand.
  5. 0:32 So it's interesting to see now companies like Smuckers are finally have enough with it.
  6. 0:37 And I think the the fact that Trader Joe's is known as a healthier space uh grocery store, that more people are gonna be buying their incrustables versus the generic name brand.
  7. 0:48 So I think that's pretty interesting to see.
  8. 0:50 Um and interesting to see if they have any more backlash from other big corporations.
  9. 0:55 Um the snack market's pretty consolidated, consolidated amongst a few big names, so um I'm sure there'll be more in the future, but it's interesting to see now.
  10. 1:04 Um Smuckers is suing them for not only the the damage that they incurred, but also for all of the money that they made selling this product.
  11. 1:13 So interesting to see where that ends up.

  1. 0:00 Luca, I think you brought up an excellent point on how s smaller companies such as Smunkers are suing their larger uh counterparts such as Trader Joe's for replicating their products and selling them for most likely a cheaper uh price.
  2. 0:17 Uh I wanted to bring up the point that it's not just the snack market that's doing this.
  3. 0:21 You look at companies like Kirkland Signature from uh from Costco, they recently got in trouble I know for their wedges.
  4. 0:29 I I think for replicating, I forget the brand, but I think Taylor Made or Mizuno wedges, uh they replicated the exact same product for almost half the price.
  5. 0:41 And I know this goes on with many more products.
  6. 0:44 I know their sodas, their their liquor for certain uh Kirkland vodka, some of their things like that.
  7. 0:51 These bigger companies such as Costco, Sam's Club, Trader Joe's are able to replicate these products with almost the exact same taste and possibly even more quality for a lower price.
  8. 1:06 So I'm interested to see how that progresses in the market.
  9. 1:10 Are these smaller companies gonna die out eventually for charging some of these outrageous prices or is the prestige around the price still gonna keep these companies afloat?
  10. 1:21 Because I know a big thing in the US is the prestige of the companies.
  11. 1:26 I mean that's the reason designer brands are alive today is because prestige definitely matters.
  12. 1:32 I think a logo matters in the eye of the American public, uh people want to be represented well and people want to be represented in a high standard and I'm interested to see if this will uh keep some of these smaller companies alive.
  13. 1:47 But when it comes to the snack market, I'm not sure much sir, uh sure so because at the end of the day, uh if the products are the same, the branding of the food is not a big concern to many.
  14. 2:01 Uh especially as financial issues continue to rise uh in the US, people aren't being able to afford groceries.
  15. 2:10 Uh I think you'll see a large transition to these bigger corporations and their products rather than these smaller companies.
  16. 2:19 I mean, most people can't afford name brand Oreos, but I'm sure they can afford the larger company counterpart.
  17. 2:26 Uh I'm interested also interested to see if the government will have any effect in this.
  18. 2:33 Uh as we are in late-stage capitalism, we're only on the rise of monopolies in this nation.
  19. 2:39 So I'm interested to see if there would be any mandates that are able to stop some of these monopolies from forming.
  20. 2:46 But uh as of now I do doubt it.
  21. 2:49 So yeah, I think you brought up an excellent topic that needs to be addressed.

  1. 0:00 Hey, what's up, Luca?
  2. 0:01 You brought up an interesting point.
  3. 0:02 And honestly, if I was Smokers, I'd be doing the same thing.
  4. 0:05 You know, Trader Joe's is making money off the likeliness of the product that Smokers has created and built over all these years.
  5. 0:14 And I don't think it's fair for Trader Joe's to come in one day and just say, hey, we like this idea.
  6. 0:17 We're just gonna make a few tweaks on it, make it a little bit healthier, and then put it on our shelves with our name on it.
  7. 0:22 You know, I don't think that's fair at all.
  8. 0:24 Smokers created this product, and then from there they also branded this product, made it known or made it available to a lot of a lot of different places, like school systems growing up, and that's how a lot of these people got hooked on it.
  9. 0:36 You know what I mean?
  10. 0:37 Like kids used to eat smokers uh uncrustables all the time.
  11. 0:40 They used to be sold and served at school.
  12. 0:42 Um, and then pretty much it's like Trader Joe's just came in, took all the hard work out of the equation, and just kind of piggybacked on smokers.
  13. 0:51 So I think it's I think it's right what smokers is doing here.
  14. 0:54 They should be Trader Joe's should be reprimanded for what they're doing here.
  15. 0:57 Um it's not their own product, they're using the the entire idea of smokers uncrustable and making it their own by making a few tweaks, and it's not even their own at that point.
  16. 1:08 You know, they made a few changes to the recipe and the ingredients, but that doesn't constitute you being able to do that and make money off of somebody else's product, you know what I mean?
  17. 1:16 It's like if I were to make hot Cheetos and just change the lemon that I use to make the chips, could I sell them as Hot Cheetos my brand?
  18. 1:25 You know what I mean?
  19. 1:25 Like my branded hot Cheos.
  20. 1:27 I don't think so.
  21. 1:28 So I definitely do think that there needs to be some pushback on Trader Joe's.
  22. 1:32 Um if I was smokers, I I would be pretty unhappy with this.
